Omar Apollo will make his film debut in ‘Queer’, directed by Luca Guadagnino, alongside Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey.

Renowned singer and songwriter Omar Apollo will debut on the big screen in Luca Guadagnino‘s upcoming film, Queer, as reported by IndieWire. The screenplay, written by Justin Kuritzkes—known for his work on Challengers—is an adaptation of the eponymous novel by William S. Burroughs, published in 1985. The film will also feature Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey in leading roles.

Although much of the plot remains undisclosed, it is known that Daniel Craig‘s character, William Lee, is an American expatriate and war veteran living in Mexico City during the 1940s. Lee begins a relationship with a young man named Eugene Allerton, played by Drew Starkey. This character is inspired by Adelbert Lewis Marker, a man Burroughs met during his stay in the Mexican capital and who was fundamental to his novel. While Omar Apollo’s role has yet to be detailed, it has been mentioned that he will have a significant part in the film.

The cast also includes other notable actors such as Jason Schwartzman, Henrique Zaga, Andres Duprat, Ariel Shulman, Drew Droege, and Colin Bates. Additionally, much of the team from Challengers returns for this new project, with Jonathan Anderson handling costume design, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross composing the music, and Sayombhu Mukdeeprom in charge of cinematography.

Queer will premiere at the Venice Film Festival 2024 this September. Stay tuned to Xmag for more details on this anticipated film.
