Sophie Turner is set to portray Lara Croft in Amazon’s ‘Tomb Raider’ series, written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

According to sources confirmed by Variety, Sophie Turner is close to signing on to play Lara Croft in Amazon’s new ‘Tomb Raider‘ series. While the deal has not been finalized, it is expected to be completed soon, placing Turner in the role of the iconic adventurer.

The series, greenlit by Amazon earlier this year, features Phoebe Waller-Bridge as writer and executive producer under her overall deal with the streaming giant. Announced in January 2023, the project is a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios and Crystal Dynamics, the company behind the video game franchise.

Turner joins an elite group of actresses who have embodied Croft. The fearless explorer has previously been portrayed on the big screen by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. Turner, best known globally for her role as Sansa Stark in ‘Game of Thrones‘, has demonstrated her talent in other notable roles, such as Jean Grey in the ‘X-Men‘ films. Most recently, she starred in the series ‘Joan‘ and ‘The Staircase‘.

The ‘Tomb Raider‘ series is being developed under an exclusive deal between dj2 Entertainment and Amazon MGM Studios to produce new stories for the franchise. In addition to Waller-Bridge, Jenny Robins, Dmitri M. Johnson, and Michael Scheel are among the executive producers.

The news of Turner’s casting was first reported by Deadline.
