Balenciaga launches the innovative BFRND Series, merging fashion, music, and video games in collaboration with the French composer BFRND.
Balenciaga once again pushes the boundaries with the launch of Balenciaga Music | BFRND Series. This ambitious project, scheduled for release on May 21, 2024, combines high fashion, music, and digital gaming through a collaboration with the French composer and musician BFRND. Known for his genre-defying musical compositions that have accompanied every Balenciaga presentation since 2017, BFRND often blurs the lines between dark electronic sounds and classical music.
The collaboration focuses on several key components, with the main one being limited edition merchandise and a 4-hour original playlist curated by BFRND himself. The merchandise includes stylish t-shirts and zip-up hoodies, each equipped with an NFC chip that provides exclusive access to a wealth of content, enhancing the consumer experience beyond the tangible. This innovative approach leverages technology to offer digital engagement with fashion, as well as providing interactivity and exclusivity to the clothing.
Adding a unique twist to the series is ‘BFRND: The Game,’ an original 8-bit-style video game that offers fans a nostalgic journey through various iconic scenes from Balenciaga’s fashion shows, such as Winter ’21 and Spring ’24. In this pixelated adventure, players guide a digital avatar of BFRND, navigating through intricately designed levels filled with obstacles and collectibles, all synchronized with the custom tracks produced for Balenciaga’s past runway shows.
The game will be accessible through a dedicated mini-site, WeChat, and interactive touch screens located in Balenciaga’s flagship stores in Paris Montaigne and Shanghai IAPM, with the first three levels available to everyone. A fourth bonus level will be accessible only through merchandise with NFC technology. Additionally, the launch of this series will be celebrated with a global contest where the top 30 players of ‘BFRND: The Game’ will be awarded.
