Billie Eilish debuts the heartfelt music video for “CHIHIRO,” inspired by Miyazaki’s film and starring Nat Wolff.
Billie Eilish has released the new music video for her song “CHIHIRO,” one of the favorites among her fans from the album Hit Me Hard and Soft. In this visual, directed by Eilish herself, the singer is seen running, both away from and alongside her love interest, portrayed by Nat Wolff. Eilish described this video as “one of my favorites that I’ve made and truly one of the best days of my life.” In an Instagram post, she thanked Wolff for his involvement, writing, “Nat, I love you so much. Thank you for being a part of this.”
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Eilish revealed that the inspiration behind “CHIHIRO” comes from the main character of Hayao Miyazaki‘s acclaimed film Spirited Away. “It’s like it’s from her point of view, mixed with mine,” she explained. Eilish highlighted the visual influence of the film, especially the iconic scenes of the train on the water after the flood, comparing them to the magical realism that Studio Ghibli captures.
“I had just watched Spirited Away and Finneas had created that beat. I love that movie. I’ve seen it so many times,” Eilish added, reflecting on how her love for the film merged with her creative process.
The “CHIHIRO” video comes just a day after Eilish released three single-take versions of the music video for “LUNCH,” showcasing her ability to explore different styles and visual narratives in her art.
