According to reports, Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes have decided to separate once again after their reunion at Coachella in April.

A source told Entertainment Tonight that the singers “tried it out, but ultimately the timing isn’t right for either of them.” Reportedly, the exes are now “busy and doing their own things.”

The question on the minds of Cabello and Mendes’ fans now is whether this breakup will be permanent or not. The couple’s relationship dates back to 2014 when they first met and became close friends while touring with Austin Mahone. While their chemistry was undeniable to fans from the start, they remained just friends and dated other people for years. They also collaborated on two successful songs: 2015’s “I Know What You Did Last Summer” and 2019’s “Señorita.” They eventually started dating in 2019, and Mendes admitted he had always been in love with Cabello.

“It takes a lot of courage to tell the woman you love that you love her,” Mendes told Access Hollywood in December 2020. “I had five years’ worth of fear of being rejected by her that prevented me from doing it each time, or confidence. It took a lot. It took a long time to get there. I had a five-year warming-up to finally be able to tell her how I felt.”

After two years of dating, Cabello and Mendes ultimately broke up in November 2021. Cabello started dating Austin Kevitch throughout 2022, while Mendes was briefly linked to Sabrina Carpenter (though they never officially dated).

In early 2023, the “Señorita” singers reconnected, according to a source who told ET that they had been talking a lot prior to their encounter at Coachella in 2023. “Camila and Shawn have been talking and spending time together for months before Coachella,” the source said. “They have always had a lot of love for each other, even when they were apart. They still care about each other.”

While the recent split of Cabello and Mendes seems final, considering their history, fans will likely anticipate another reunion in the future.
