Cooper Koch, star of ‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story’, says that Erik Menéndez is determined to become an activist if he is released from prison.
During Netflix’s FYC event held on Tuesday in West Hollywood, Cooper Koch spoke to the press about his recent conversation with Erik Menéndez, after a judge allowed the case to be reopened for a possible resentencing. “I spoke with him yesterday and he’s excited,” Koch told Variety. “He’s grateful and full of hope.”

The actor, who portrays Erik in the series, said that the younger Menéndez brother plans to become an activist: “He wants to bring about major change in the prison system. He told me his life will be dedicated to helping others serving life sentences without parole. I find that deeply inspiring.”
The story of the Menéndez brothers, convicted of murdering their parents in 1989, has returned to the spotlight thanks to the success of Ryan Murphy’s series. A Los Angeles judge recently changed their sentence from life without parole to 50 years to life, giving them a chance of release.
The parole hearing has been postponed until August, but Erik is already clear about his goal: “In ten years’ time, I want people to say: ‘We made the right decision’.”
