Dua Lipa releases ‘Radical Optimism,’ a vibrant album that merges 90s Britpop with contemporary psychedelic pop.
Dua Lipa has officially launched her third studio album, Radical Optimism. The successor to the revered 2020 Future Nostalgia lasts just over 35 minutes and showcases her paying homage to 90s Britpop while attempting to channel her interest in psychedelic pop and UK rave culture. Her ability to craft songs nails the brutal honesty heard at the height of Britpop, but her appreciation for the rest wavers throughout the album and falls slightly short. Nevertheless, Radical Optimism is packed with catchy and danceable pop gems, offering a digestible auditory experience. Just don’t expect a “radical” departure from its predecessor.
“Radical optimism, and the way I see it, is this idea of moving forward without letting anything bring you down for too long, always seeing the bright side of things, being able to grow and progress and change your perspective regardless of what’s happening in your life,” she told Zane Lowe of Apple Music. “Whether it’s heartbreak, whether it’s a friendship, whether it’s a relationship, whether it’s just growing up and seeing things differently. I think it’s a big part of maturing and growing.”
You can listen to “Radical Optimism” by Dua Lipa on both Spotify and Apple Music. Enjoy the album!
