Dries Van Noten, the iconic Belgian designer, bids farewell as the creative director of his eponymous fashion house, leaving an indelible legacy.

The acclaimed Belgian designer, Dries Van Noten, has announced his decision to resign as the creative director of his eponymous fashion house. This announcement comes as Van Noten prepares for his final runway show in this role, scheduled for the Spring/Summer 2025 men’s season during Paris Fashion Week in June. The Spring/Summer 2025 women’s collection, set for release in September, will be designed by Van Noten’s studio team as the brand, currently owned by the Spanish perfume and fashion conglomerate Puig, seeks a successor.

Van Noten’s departure marks the end of an era for one of the most influential figures in contemporary fashion. After founding his brand in 1986, Van Noten emerged as a member of the “Antwerp Six,” a group of Belgian designers known for their innovative approach to fashion that challenged industry norms throughout the 1990s. His designs are celebrated for their unique blend of colors, prints, and intricate details, often inspired by a wide range of cultural and artistic influences.

In 2018, Van Noten sold a majority stake in his company to Puig, a move that allowed the brand to expand its product line into beauty and fragrance, open new stores, and strengthen its operational capabilities. Despite resigning, Van Noten will remain a significant minority shareholder and will continue to be involved in the brand, focusing on select projects. This transition aims to make room for new talents to bring a fresh vision to the Dries Van Noten brand while ensuring that his legacy endures.

The search for Van Noten’s successor is already underway, with potential candidates being considered for their ability to continue the brand’s story while honoring its distinguished heritage. Puig’s President and CEO, Marc Puig, expressed respect for Van Noten’s decision and his commitment to preserving the brand’s legacy as they move forward into a new chapter.

Van Noten’s influence extends beyond his designs, as he has been a vocal advocate for a more sustainable and thoughtful approach to fashion. His decision to resign reflects a desire to explore new interests and passions while allowing the brand he built to evolve under new creative leadership. The fashion world eagerly awaits the announcement of the new creative director, who will have the challenging task of following in the footsteps of one of the industry’s most creative and respected figures.
