Zoe Saldaña, Angela Bassett and other stars stylishly challenged the revamped Cannes 2025 dress code, on a red carpet where elegance triumphed over censorship.

The 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival began with a surprise: less than 24 hours before its opening, a new regulation was announced, banning nudity and excessively long trains. “For reasons of decency,” clarified the official statement on 12 May, access to the red carpet is now prohibited for those who do not comply with these rules.

Even so, sophistication did not take a back seat. The presence of Eva Longoria, Irina Shayk, Zoe Saldaña, Angela Bassett and Halle Berry confirmed that stars know how to adapt without losing visual impact.

Gone are the days of iconic moments like Milla Jovovich’s slip dress for Dior by Galliano (1997), Irina’s provocative Mowalola design from 2023, or Bella Hadid’s Saint Laurent dress made from tights in 2024. This year, Cannes is calling for restraint. But one thing is certain: stars always find a way to shine.
