From Marvel to the West End: Tom Holland set to star in Romeo and Juliet in a dark version directed by Jamie Lloyd. Theatrical excitement guaranteed!
Vogue, in its 2021 Hollywood Portfolio, highlighted Tom Holland, who shared invaluable advice from his first director, Nick Evans, about turning nerves into excitement. Following his roles in Cherry and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Holland will pivot his career by taking on the role of Romeo in Jamie Lloyd’s adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, set to begin on May 11th at the Duke of York Theatre.
Under Lloyd’s distinctive direction, known for his noir reimagining of Sunset Boulevard, the production is expected to depart from the conventional. Instead of a typical Elizabethan representation, a darker and more contemporary approach is envisaged, supported by the choice of Friar Laurence’s line, “These violent delights have violent ends,” as a motto.
This premiere will mark Holland’s Shakespearean debut, who, following Evans’ advice, will turn nerves into excitement. In the West End’s spring season, alongside actors such as Sarah Snook and Cara Delevingne, Holland emphasizes that for an actor, there is nothing more thrilling than the challenge of live stage performance.
