Glenn Martens takes over as creative director of Maison Margiela following John Galliano’s departure, marking the beginning of a new era for the iconic French house.

Fashion is constantly evolving, and the latest major shift in the industry is the arrival of Glenn Martens as creative director of Maison Margiela. Following John Galliano’s departure in December 2024, Martens—renowned for his work at Y/Project and Diesel—takes on the challenge of leading the iconic French house.

Born in Bruges in 1983, Martens studied at the ‘Royal Academy of Fine Arts’ in Antwerp, graduating with honours. His career includes collaborations with Jean Paul Gaultier and a decade at the helm of Y/Project, where he redefined contemporary aesthetics with his conceptual approach to streetwear. Since 2020, he has also revitalised Diesel, resonating with younger generations and cementing his reputation.

Now, at Maison Margiela, Martens has the opportunity to merge his innovative vision with the house’s rich heritage. “I feel extremely honoured to join such a unique maison,” the designer stated. With the support of Renzo Rosso, president of the OTB group, and a career defined by experimentation and success, his arrival marks the beginning of a new era for the brand. The fashion world eagerly awaits his first major move.
