The 2025 Cannes Film Festival kicked off with French fashion, heartfelt speeches and unexpected moments on a night brimming with glamour.
The Cannes Film Festival began with a red carpet dominated by elegance and French couture. Halle Berry surprised onlookers in a graphic dress by Jacquemus, tailored to the festival’s new rules that ban nudity and excessively long trains. The actress revealed she had changed her outfit at the last minute due to these restrictions.

Juliette Binoche, president of the jury, chose a haute couture ensemble by Dior while delivering an emotional speech about the urgency of climate change and the importance of artistic commitment. Other notable figures such as Alba Rohrwacher and Leïla Slimani also wore creations by Chanel and Dior, reaffirming the dominance of French fashion.
Leonardo DiCaprio, dressed in a classic CELINE tuxedo, made a surprise appearance to present an honorary Palme d’Or to Robert De Niro, who used his speech to criticise President Trump’s cultural policies. “Art is a threat to autocrats,” he declared.
Jeremy Strong stood out with his monochrome look in shades of pink by Loro Piana, reaffirming his loyalty to the Italian brand. With a strong presence of fashion, activism and cinema, Cannes continues to assert its role as a global epicentre of glamour and artistic awareness.
