Robert Pattinson joins the list of contenders to become the next James Bond after reportedly undergoing a screen test for Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming film.
Robert Pattinson could be on the verge of adding another iconic character to his career. The 40-year-old British actor, best known for portraying Bruce Wayne in ‘The Batman’, has reportedly joined the list of candidates to become the next James Bond, one of the most coveted roles in Hollywood.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pattinson took part in a screen test over the weekend of 24 October, when Amazon MGM Studios brought together several actors to assess who could succeed Daniel Craig as the face of the franchise.
Other contenders reportedly include Callum Turner, Jack Lowden and Josh O’Connor, three names that have been circulating for months in speculation surrounding the future of Agent 007. Recent reports in the entertainment press have also identified Nicholas Hoult as a potential candidate.
Pattinson’s possible involvement is particularly interesting given his connection to Denis Villeneuve, the director selected to helm the next James Bond film. The pair have already worked together on ‘Dune: Part Three’, which is scheduled for release in December this year.
Furthermore, the actor is currently enjoying one of the most significant periods of his career, with recent projects including Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ and ‘The Drama’, alongside Zendaya. These are joined by the highly anticipated sequel to ‘The Batman’, in which he will reprise his role as the DC superhero.
His commitment to the Batman franchise could potentially create scheduling difficulties if he were ultimately chosen to portray Bond, although no official information has emerged to rule out that possibility.
The next instalment in the spy franchise will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, with a screenplay by Steven Knight, creator of ‘Peaky Blinders’, and produced by Amy Pascal and David Heyman. It will be the first film since Amazon MGM assumed creative control of the franchise.
For now, the studio has not officially confirmed its choice of actor, meaning Pattinson’s reported participation in the screen tests does not guarantee that he will secure the role.
What does appear clear is that the search for the next James Bond is entering a decisive phase, five years after Daniel Craig bid farewell to the character in ‘No Time to Die’.
