Two of Ireland’s national treasures, Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott, are gearing up for their upcoming film, “Strangers.”

British filmmaker Andrew Haigh has also enlisted Jamie Bell and Claire Foy for this new independent movie.

While Mescal recently celebrated his Olivier Award for his performance in “A Streetcar Named Desire” in the most down-to-earth way, we’re excited to see him return to the big screen alongside a star-studded cast for this LGBTQ+ romantic film.

Keep reading to learn all the details we know so far about “Strangers,” including the plot and release date.

Cast of “Strangers”

According to Variety, Andrew Scott from “Fleabag,” Paul Mescal from “Normal People,” Claire Foy from “The Crown,” and Jamie Bell from “Rocketman” are all set to appear in the film.

Plot of “Strangers”

According to the film’s synopsis, “Strangers” tells the story of screenwriter Adam (played by Scott), who shares a night with Henry (played by Mescal), disrupting the rhythm of his everyday life. Adam and Henry grow closer, which, along with Haigh’s filmography, suggests that the couple will experience some form of sexual awakening. Later, Adam returns home and discovers that his deceased parents, portrayed by Foy and Bell, are somehow alive and look the same as they did before dying over 30 years ago. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Taichi Yamada, as reported by Variety.

Director of “Strangers”

The film is directed by film mogul Haigh, who is primarily known for the LGBTQ+ love story “Weekend” (2011), as well as the independent films “45 Years” (2015) and “Lean on Pete” (2017).

He also served as executive producer and writer/director for HBO’s “Looking” (2014-2016) and was the creator of the BBC and AMC series “The North Water” (2021).

Release Date of “Strangers”

While we don’t have a specific release date yet, Mescal told W Magazine that he believes the film could premiere “towards the end of the year,” after he finishes shooting for Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator” sequel.
