J Balvin unveils an unreleased all-black version of his Air Jordan 1 limited to just 100 pairs.

  • The Colombian artist revealed the sneaker for the first time during the private celebration of his 41st birthday.

Just when it seemed that J Balvin’s Air Jordan 1 had already secured its place in modern sneaker history, the Colombian artist surprised the fashion and streetwear world once again. During his private birthday celebration, J Balvin unveiled a completely unreleased and far darker version of his iconic collaboration with Jordan Brand: an all-black Air Jordan 1 “Black” that had never previously surfaced.

The model, created exclusively for friends and family, is reportedly limited to only 100 pairs, instantly turning it into one of the most exclusive and coveted sneakers in today’s sneaker culture.

The silhouette retains the visual DNA of the original 2020 release — widely regarded as one of the most recognisable sneaker collaborations of the last decade — including the jagged cut-out edges around the Swoosh, ankle collar and toe box. However, this new version completely abandons the colourful explosion and tie-dye aesthetic of the original design in favour of a much darker and more aggressive approach.

The upper combines black canvas with premium leather overlays in matching tones, creating a sneaker that leans heavily into Y2K goth aesthetics and contemporary urban luxury.

Still, true to J Balvin’s creative identity, the design incorporates vibrant contrasting details. Neon accents appear on the heels, including a yellow smiley face featuring his signature lightning-bolt eye, a pink Jumpman logo and a special “OMERTA” badge, directly referencing the Colombian artist’s recent musical project alongside Ryan Castro.

The reveal also arrives at a strategic moment for the artist, as rumours continue to intensify surrounding another collaboration between J Balvin and Jordan Brand — this time centred around a possible Air Jordan 4 release expected later this year.

Beyond the sneaker itself, this “Black” version almost feels like an alternative reinterpretation of one of the defining collaborations of the modern Jordan era. A design that once again proves just how much creative influence J Balvin continues to hold within the global streetwear landscape.

And while everything suggests these sneakers will never officially reach the market, that only adds even more to their myth. Because in sneaker culture, few things create more desire than what almost nobody will ever be able to own.
