Jay-Z has lost a million dollars after betting that the Oklahoma City Thunder would win the NBA Finals in five games.

Music mogul Jay-Z suffered a $1 million loss after placing a bet that the Oklahoma City Thunder would clinch the NBA Finals in just five games. The series between the Thunder and the Indiana Pacers has taken an unexpected turn, rendering the rapper’s prediction impossible.

After the Pacers secured their second win in the series, it became clear that Oklahoma City could no longer seal the championship in five matches. The bet, placed through Fanatics Sportsbook — a company in which Jay-Z is an investor — would have earned him $2.3 million had the Thunder followed through on his forecast.

The Thunder opened the series with a Game 1 loss, squandering a sizeable lead in the final quarter. However, they bounced back with a home win in Game 2. Game 3 again went to Indiana, who upset the favourites despite entering as 5.5-point underdogs.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, star player and 2025 NBA MVP, acknowledged the Pacers’ intensity and took responsibility for the defeat, assuring fans that the team is focused on improving and winning the next match.

The series continues with Game 4 this Friday, where the Thunder will fight to stay alive in the Finals.
