Jennifer Lopez reflects on her divorce from Ben Affleck and reveals how the split brought a profound change to her life.

Jennifer Lopez has spoken candidly about one of the most publicised chapters of her life: her divorce from Ben Affleck. In an interview with Lee Cowan on CBS News Sunday Morning, aired on 28 September, the 56-year-old singer and actress described the separation as “the best thing that ever happened to me.”

“Because it changed me,” she explained. “It helped me grow in a way I needed to grow.”

Lopez and Affleck officially finalised their divorce in January 2025, the same month that the film ‘Kiss of the Spider Woman’ premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, in which she stars and he serves as executive producer.

The star recalled that filming the project during such a personal crisis was an emotional challenge: “It was a very tough time. Every moment on set made me happy, but coming home wasn’t. And I thought: ‘How do I reconcile this?’”

Their love story began in 2002, when they became one of Hollywood’s most followed couples. After calling off their engagement in 2004, they each rebuilt their lives: Lopez married Marc Anthony (2004–2014), with whom she had twins Max and Emme, while Affleck married Jennifer Garner (2005–2018), with whom he shares three children: Violet, Seraphina and Samuel.

Today, Lopez insists that the closure not only marked the end of a relationship, but also the beginning of a more fulfilling personal chapter.
