Jude Law breaks his silence on the Apple TV+ series adaptation of The Holiday and reveals what would bring him back.
Jude Law doesn’t seem particularly thrilled about the idea of reprising his role as ‘Mr Napkin Head’. The actor, who played widower Graham in the much-loved Christmas film The Holiday (2006), revealed on the Today Show that he wasn’t even aware Apple TV+ was developing a limited series adaptation.
“I literally just found out. I know absolutely nothing about the project, other than I don’t think I’m going to be in it,” he said. “I think Nancy [Meyers] wrote to me and asked: ‘Have you heard about this?’. That was literally it.”
Now 52, Law joked that in this new version he would end up playing “the grandfather”. And although he made it clear he is not part of the cast at present, he didn’t entirely shut the door. When host Craig Melvin asked if he would be interested in returning to The Holiday universe, the actor was clear: “Nancy Meyers would have to be involved. She was the magic that made it all work.”
That possibility, however, seems unlikely. Meyers, who wrote and directed the original film, reacted with surprise when she discovered the series news on Instagram. “News to me,” she wrote on her stories, sharing a screenshot of The Hollywood Reporter. “Imagine my surprise when I opened Instagram and this was the first thing I saw,” she added, alongside a thinking emoji.
Released in 2006, The Holiday was a box-office hit, grossing over $200 million worldwide. The story follows Amanda (Cameron Diaz), a Los Angeles trailer editor, and Iris (Kate Winslet), a heartbroken London journalist, who decide to swap houses over the festive season. In doing so, both unexpectedly find love: Amanda with Graham (Jude Law), Iris’s brother, and Iris with Miles (Jack Black), a charming composer.
The film remains one of the most cherished titles in the genre, and the fourth-highest-grossing film of Meyers’ directing career, behind What Women Want, Something’s Gotta Give and It’s Complicated. Despite fans’ affection, Meyers has repeatedly denied any plans for a sequel. Back in 2022, she had already quashed Instagram rumours of a supposed reunion of the original cast.
The limited series of The Holiday on Apple TV+ will be written and produced by Krissie Ducker (Sweetpea), with Rob Delaney (Catastrophe) attached as creative consultant.
