Cate Holstein’s collection was marked by an aura of mystery, darkness, and ambiguity, drawing influence from the Lynch universe.

The KHAITE runway show took place at the Park Avenue Armory, where the brand’s designer and CEO, Cate Holstein, presented her proposal on a 25-metre circular runway, designed to immerse attendees in the event. According to the designer herself, the circular layout of the runway was a reference to the famous yellow brick road from ‘The Wizard of Oz‘, but what truly defined the collection was the influence of David Lynch, with his style filled with enigmas and visual tensions.

The collection stood out for its play on shapes and textures, creating a hypnotic yet functional atmosphere. The pieces, full of drama, offered a fresh take on the use of leather, with calfskin jackets and raw leather that adapted to various styles, from the rugged to the rebellious spirit, while also embracing chic sophistication.

The corset was innovatively reinterpreted, abandoning its rigidity to become sculptural pieces made of elastic mesh, soft stays, and other diverse materials. These were paired with cashmere tops, opera gloves, and low-rise trousers, resulting in looks that evoked the seduction of a New York femme fatale.

Despite the sensuality of many pieces, comfort also played a role in the collection, particularly in the more casual outfits, such as relaxed shirts, cosy cardigans, and oversized coats, which seemed to capture the fast pace of urban life.

The entire experience was accompanied by a unique sonic atmosphere, with a soundtrack blending the mysticism of Marilyn Manson’s ‘I Put a Spell on You‘ with the sombre tones of Smashing Pumpkins’ ‘Luna‘, transforming each step on the runway into a statement of power.
