KJ Apa is set to step into the shoes of Jimmy Stewart in a new biopic officially endorsed by the late actor’s family.

Following the end of Riverdale, KJ Apa has taken on a new acting challenge: portraying the legendary Jimmy Stewart in his official biopic, simply titled Jimmy. The project, slated to begin production next month, is scheduled for release in November 2026 and comes with the full support of Stewart’s family.

“I’ve always been a huge admirer of James Stewart and I feel honoured to bring his story to life,” Apa said in a statement shared via Variety. “As a New Zealander, I’ve long admired that generation of American men who embodied patriotism, integrity, and a sense of duty. It’s important to me to give back to a country that has given me so much – and what better way to do so than by honouring a man who served it with great distinction.”

Jimmy Stewart, a true icon of classic cinema, won an Oscar for The Philadelphia Story and is especially remembered for his role in ¡It’s a Wonderful Life!. Beyond his acting career, he also served as a pilot in World War II, further cementing his legacy as a symbol of integrity and dedication.

The cast will also feature Jason Alexander as Louis B. Mayer, Max Casella as Frank Capra, Sarah Drew as Hedda Hopper, Julian Works as Lieutenant Martínez, and Jen Lilley as Gloria, Stewart’s wife.

The film will have Kelly Stewart-Harcourt, the actor’s daughter, on board as executive producer. “My family and I are thrilled and excited that KJ Apa has agreed to portray my father. His enthusiasm for the project, along with his talent, will bring depth and energy to the role,” she said.

With a strong cast and the direct support of the Stewart family, Jimmy promises to be a powerful and heartfelt portrayal of one of Hollywood’s golden-era greats. For KJ Apa, it marks a bold step away from Archie Andrews – and into what may be one of the most demanding roles of his career.
