A new report debunks the viral rumour: Lady Gaga was not contacted to perform at Jeff Bezos’ wedding.
Over the weekend, several international media outlets claimed that Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez had invited Lady Gaga and Elton John to perform at their wedding in Venice, but that both had asked for $6 million as a fee. Apparently, the couple declined.
However, new sources completely deny the story. According to TMZ, “neither Elton nor Gaga were even contacted to perform — let alone to ask for such a sum,” says a source close to the artist.
Considering the celebration reportedly cost more than $50 million and that Gaga is one of the most influential artists on the planet, the rumoured figure would not only be unsurprising but consistent with her stature.
Ultimately, the music at the event was provided by Ellie Goulding — a decent choice, though far from Gaga’s level of impact — and Matteo Bocelli, a young singer with a promising voice but better known for his surname than his career.
If the goal was to mark a historic wedding, not having a top-tier star like Gaga feels, at the very least, like a missed opportunity.
