LVMH Métiers d’Art fuses digital art and traditional denim in a unique collaboration between Shu Yonezawa and Kuroki, exploring new creative frontiers.

LVMH Métiers d’Art has launched an innovative collaboration in Japan, merging the digital creativity of artist Shu Yonezawa with the denim manufacturing expertise of Kuroki, one of the most iconic houses in denim production. This initiative is part of LVMH‘s first artistic residency in the country, which began on 13th January 2025 and will run for six months.

Kuroki, renowned for its artisanal excellence since 1950, specializes in high-quality denim production, using fresh water from the Ibara region and traditional indigo dyeing techniques. Through this collaboration, Shu Yonezawa’s work, known for her focus on digital animation, will integrate with the tradition of denim production. This partnership poses challenges as it pushes the technical boundaries of the creation process, aiming to combine the essence of craftsmanship with cutting-edge digital innovation.

The residency aims to explore new forms of expression and creation, with the final presentation of the work scheduled for the end of 2025. This project reflects LVMH Métiers d’Art’s commitment to preserving Japanese artisanal know-how while driving innovation in digital art, offering a new perspective on fashion and textile tradition.
