The artist admits she passed on ‘We Found Love’, one of Rihanna’s biggest hits, and explains why she made that decision.

Sometimes, a single decision can change the course of a career. That is exactly what Nicole Scherzinger has acknowledged, revealing what she considers her biggest professional mistake: turning down a song that would later become one of Rihanna’s most successful global hits.

The confession came during an appearance on Capital FM’s YouTube channel, where the singer joined her fellow The Pussycat Dolls members, Kimberly Wyatt and Ashley Roberts. In a light-hearted moment during a music game, Scherzinger recalled receiving the demo for ‘We Found Love’… and choosing not to record it.

“They sent me that song, but at the time I was really busy and also wanted to step away from the dance sound,” she explained. The artist admitted she did not give the track enough attention at the time: “It was my fault, I slept on it.” A decision that would later become a defining moment in her career.

The track, produced by Calvin Harris, ultimately landed with Rihanna, turning into a global phenomenon and one of the biggest hits of the decade. Its impact was immediate: it topped international charts and became one of the most iconic songs in modern pop.

Scherzinger did not hesitate to describe that choice as her “biggest mistake”, drawing surprised reactions from her bandmates. However, she also adopted a more reflective perspective, acknowledging that the song likely found the right artist to bring it to its full potential.

The moment has once again highlighted how decisions work within the music industry, where key opportunities can be missed in a matter of seconds. Even so, Nicole Scherzinger remains a relevant figure in international pop, with a solid career built since her time as the lead of The Pussycat Dolls.

The group is currently preparing a comeback with new music and a world tour, proving that even after mistakes, there is always room to reinvent yourself.
