The singer graces the cover of Xmag’s December issue alongside her Christmas song Christmas Magic’ and opens up about her experience as a solo artist and the cost of fame.

After four solo singles, Perrie kicks off December with her fifth release: ‘Christmas Magic’. The singer reveals that it was a very spontaneous project: “I love Christmas and really wanted to write a festive song. I wrote and recorded it in just two days.”

Since auditioning for The X Factor in 2011, the British singer has been through a lot and learned even more. Adapting to it all has been a gradual process, but one thing that helped her was being part of ‘Little Mix‘: “The best thing was having each other in the band. We were so young, so we experienced everything for the first time together. It was nice to have that support.”

While Perrie has an extensive repertoire of songs, one track holds a particularly special place in her heart: “It’s a song called ‘Me, Myself and You.’ I wrote it about my anxiety and mental health struggles. It’s very special to be able to open up and connect with fans who might, by listening to it, feel less alone.”

The artist rose to fame as part of the group ‘Little Mix’, and although the band is currently on a hiatus, they all share a deep affection for one another: “They taught me to enjoy what I do. When I’m in writing sessions, I make sure to have fun with the people I’m with. Being creative requires you to feel safe and comfortable so you can be yourself. If not, you won’t bring out your best.”

Even so, Perrie feels that her journey as a songwriter truly began when she launched her solo career: “When I was in the band, I wasn’t great at saying my ideas out loud in a room full of people. When I started as a solo artist, I didn’t plan to write my own music, but as I began sessions with writers and producers I felt comfortable with, I developed a real love for songwriting.”

Fame isn’t easy to handle and can often lead to significant challenges. Perrie shared how important she feels it is to address this issue: “It’s crucial to ensure that everyone in the industry gets the right support. I think there should be more consequences for online haters. At the moment, there are none, and it’s very dangerous.
