The Italian designer takes over from Demna with a more artisanal and emotional vision of contemporary luxury.

The fashion world is undergoing another shake-up: Pierpaolo Piccioli, former creative director of Valentino, has been appointed the new creative head of Balenciaga, succeeding Demna, who announced his move to Gucci in March.

Renowned for elevating Valentino’s haute couture to new aesthetic and emotional heights, Piccioli will now oversee the ready-to-wear, menswear, and haute couture collections of the house founded by Cristóbal Balenciaga.

Who is Pierpaolo Piccioli, and why is he a crucial signing for Balenciaga?

Piccioli is one of the most acclaimed designers of the 21st century. His tenure at Valentino redefined fashion with an inclusive, sophisticated, and deeply human approach. His artistic vision, rooted in craftsmanship and emotion, marks a clear contrast with the visual provocation of previous Balenciaga eras.

“To be here today, shaping a new story in a house where creativity has always been culture and innovation a science, is a true honour,” he expressed in his open letter.

At Kering, Francesca Bellettini had no doubts: “His creative voice and mastery of haute couture make him the ideal choice.” The Piccioli era begins with promises of elegance and reinvention.
