In a candid conversation with Xmag, the members of POW, the explosive newcomers in the K-pop scene, unravel the meaning behind their name, share insights into their debut single “Favorite,” discuss their global journey connecting with fans, and offer a glimpse into their latest release, “Valentine.”

POW: The name POW is more than just a sound; it’s a symbol of our vibrant entry into the music scene. POW represents the explosive sound that marks our debut, aiming to bring a fresh and fun experience to the world.

POW: “Favorite,” our debut single, is a pop-punk genre track carefully chosen to showcase our distinct, vibrant energy. The lively guitar sound perfectly matches POW’s energy, and it reflects our unique charisma. “Dazzling” also complements our warm vibes with a beautiful piano melody.

POW: “Favorite” really reflects our personalities. We paired the song with our vibrant and free-spirited energy, both in the music and performance. Our goal was to highlight each member’s unique characteristics in both music and onstage. We even developed our character settings to enhance this.

[Dongyeon]: The K-Galaxy 2024 in Germany stands out the most. It marked our first performance outside of Asia, and although the experience was incredible, overcoming the language barrier with fans was challenging.
[Jungbin]: Every moment shared with our fans holds a special place in my heart, especially when we exchange energies with POWERs while on stage. It’s an intimate experience.
[Hyunbin]: Neighbors Con in Japan will forever hold a special place in my heart. Learning that many of our POWERs first discovered us at that event makes it even more meaningful.
[Hong]: We meet our fans around the world and can’t help but feel the language barrier when meeting fans one-on-one at fan signing events. On stage, we connect through the universal language of music, but there are limitations to one-on-one communication.
[Yorch]: I firmly believe that through our music, we can build stronger connections with our POWERs. Despite the language barrier, music serves as a powerful means of communication.
5. The EP’s Theme and Reception
POW: This EP captures the memories of our radiant summer days. We hear that many listeners felt a refreshing and youthful vibe from it, bringing back memories of their own from that time.
6. Evolving Stage Performances
[Dongyeon]: In the beginning, we were far from perfect, but every step of our journey has contributed to our steady growth. We have a blast together with our audience, and we’re growing with our fans.
[Jungbin]: From our pre-single days to now, we’ve gained a wealth of experience from various stages. Nowadays, we’ve learned how to focus and have fun on stage. I believe our audiences are also having more fun with us as we continue to progress.
[Hyunbin]: The only way to improve is through practice. Each performance requires meticulous practice and preparation from start to finish. Every experience contributes to our growth.
[Hong]: While I appreciate seeing the audience and fans having a great time with us, we still feel there’s room for growth. We’re eager to improve as artists.
[Yorch]: The more fun I have on stage, the more fun the audience has as well. To create an exciting experience together, I focus on elevating my energy level on stage.

[Dongyeon]: I’m continuously moved and filled with gratitude and excitement when I see fans supporting us in unexpected places.
[Jungbin]: Our fans energize me so much during our activities. They show up early in the morning, take amazing photographs of us, and shower us with support from afar.
[Hyunbin]: I deeply appreciate fans who approach us naturally, as if we’ve been friends or even family for a long time.
[Hong]: Messages like “A country without Hong is no country at all” bring me so much joy and remind me of the special bond we share with our fans.
[Yorch]: Meeting up with our fans is always a blast. Every time we connect, I can feel our friendship and bond growing stronger.
8. Role Models and Contributions to K-pop
[Dongyeon]: Jungkook of BTS is my role model. As for POW, we are tirelessly working to become a standout K-pop artist.
[Jungbin]: I share the same admiration for Jungkook of BTS. We are committed to showcasing our unique and trendy charm to the world through fashion and music.
[Hyunbin]: I admire SEVENTEEN. Rather than simply chasing trends, we are determined to show our true selves to the world and, in doing so, create new trends and make a lasting impact.
[Hong]: During my training days, I aspired to be an artist like J-Hope of BTS. I paid close attention to his precise gestures and performances.
9. Member Introductions
[Dongyeon]: Hi, I’m Dongyeon. I oversee choreography practice and have a passion for eating, especially pastries, sushi, and Japanese ramen. Lately, I’ve developed an interest in photography.
[Jungbin]: I posted a viral music cover in high school, leading me to become a member of POW. I enjoy sports and cooking, holding a 4th-degree black belt in Taekwondo.
[Hyunbin]: I’m good at running and find joy in it. I name my objects to create a bond that makes me take better care of them.
[Hong]: Hey there, I’m Hong from POW. I’m from Jeonju, Korea. I have a background in Taekwondo and even earned a medal before. I enjoy fishing and watching nature videos. A quirky hobby of mine is cleaning the ears of my fellow POW members.
[Yorch]: I’m Yorch, coming to you from Thailand. I’m a big food enthusiast and can whip up fantastic dishes. Kimchi fried rice is my specialty. My favorite feature is my eyes. Let’s make eye contact often.

POW: This single presents a more mature side of us compared to our previous one, but we’re not quite fully grown up yet. We’re somewhere in the boundary between boyhood and manhood. Our collective energy, style, and performance have transformed, so we’re excited about this dynamic experience with you.
