Sabrina Carpenter and Dolly Parton reimagine ‘Please Please Please’ with a striking music video packed with references, lyric changes, and unexpected humour.
A fusion of generations has resulted in an explosive collaboration: Sabrina Carpenter and Dolly Parton have released a new version of ‘Please Please Please’, Carpenter’s hit single, now infused with a country twist and a music video inspired by Thelma & Louise.
The video features the two artists on a road trip in an old pickup truck, but with an unexpected passenger in the back: a man tied up next to a shovel—a detail many have interpreted as a nod to Barry Keoghan, Carpenter’s ex. The reference is no coincidence: Keoghan starred in the original video for the song, where his character ended up getting arrested.
Beyond the narrative twist, the new version includes a lyrical change. Instead of the original line, “I beg you, don’t embarrass me,” followed by an explicit exclamation, Carpenter and Parton now sing: “I beg you, don’t embarrass me, like the others”—a subtle yet powerful adjustment.
The release, part of the deluxe edition of Short n’ Sweet, was accompanied by an exchange of admiration between the two artists. On social media, Parton jokingly referenced the lyrics and praised Carpenter, solidifying this collaboration as one of the most unexpected and exciting of the year.
