Sarah Jessica Parker is closing her SJP shoe brand after a decade, highlighting the challenges faced by independent brands.

Sarah Jessica Parker has decided to end her SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker shoe brand, according to a statement released this week. The closure, set for this fall, marks the end of a decade during which Parker, in collaboration with the late George Malkemus, made her mark in the footwear industry. Throughout its years of operation, the brand was known for its elegant, classic styles and managed to withstand competition from big names and the challenges of the pandemic.

The announcement underscores the difficulties independent footwear brands face in a constantly changing market. Despite its initial success and surviving the COVID-19 crisis, the brand could not sustain itself against competition from more established and trend-oriented labels.

The flagship store on Bleecker Street in New York, which opened in 2023, will remain open until August 25, and customers will still be able to make purchases online. Although Parker is ending her venture in the footwear world, she will continue with other endeavors, such as her beauty, wine, cocktail, and literary brands.
