Shakira reacted emotionally to the version of ‘Antología’ performed by Dua Lipa in Bogotá during her Radical Optimism tour.
The musical encounter between two generations of Latin pop was as unexpected as it was moving. Shakira publicly reacted to Dua Lipa’s rendition of ‘Antología’ during her concert in Bogotá, calling the moment profoundly touching.
The performance took place on Friday, 28 November at Estadio El Campín, when Dua Lipa brought her ‘Radical Optimism’ tour to the Colombian capital. As she has done in every city on the tour—where she pays tribute to iconic local artists—the British singer surprised the audience with the legendary ballad released by Shakira in 1995, one of the most beloved songs in the Latin repertoire.
After the concert, the Barranquilla-born star shared a clip of the performance on her social media with an emotional message that quickly went viral:
“I’m so touched to hear my song in Dua’s voice, in the same city where I wrote it so many years ago.”
Shakira then added a reflection that resonated with thousands of fans around the world:
“See how music brings us together? A girl from London and another from Barranquilla!”
Dua Lipa’s initiative to perform iconic songs from each country has become one of the most celebrated hallmarks of the tour. So far, she has paid tribute to Ariana Grande in Miami, Aerosmith in Boston, Sinéad O’Connor in Dublin, Daft Punk in Lyon and Lorde in New Zealand. In Argentina, the singer surprised fans with a performance of ‘Misterioso Alguien’ by the group Miranda!, earning one of the loudest ovations of the entire tour and reaffirming her commitment to honouring local music culture at every stop.
Several shows have also featured surprise guests: Billie Joe Armstrong joined her for ‘Wake Me Up When September Ends’ in San Francisco; Gwen Stefani for ‘Don’t Speak’ in Los Angeles; Nile Rodgers for ‘Le Freak’ in New York; Chaka Khan for ‘Ain’t Nobody’ in Chicago; Jamiroquai for ‘Virtual Insanity’ in London; Neil Finn for ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’ in Auckland; and Kevin Parker for ‘The Less I Know The Better’ in Sydney. Most recently, Ben Gibbard from Death Cab for Cutie joined her in Seattle for a rendition of ‘I Will Follow You Into The Dark’.
The tour will now move into its final stretch in Mexico City, where she will perform three shows at Estadio GNP Seguros from 1 to 5 December, closing a chapter filled with unique moments and unforgettable collaborations.
‘Radical Optimism’, Dua Lipa’s third studio album, has accompanied the tour around the world. While critics have pointed out that it contains some of her most intriguing sonic explorations to date, for millions of fans the tour has become the ultimate proof of her ability to connect cultures, generations and emotions… just as she has now done with Shakira and ‘Antología’.
