Sydney Sweeney shines with a “Final Girl” style at the premiere of her horror film Immaculate at SXSW.

With her press tour for Anyone But You and her stint as a presenter on SNL in the rearview mirror, Sydney Sweeney is forging ahead with new projects and appearances.

The actress made an appearance at SXSW to promote her latest film, Immaculate, a horror movie set in the backdrop of a convent. However, don’t expect Sweeney to dress like a nun for this tour. Instead, the actress has fully embraced the “Final Girl” style.

Sweeney sported a custom Richard Quinn dress at the movie premiere, styled by Molly Dickson. The ankle-length white dress is made of lace and features draped satin sleeves off the shoulder. An opening allowed her to showcase a pair of trompe l’oeil boots that resemble white lace thigh-high stockings worn with pointed shoes. Her only accessory was a pair of pearl earrings.

The 80s-inspired look seems to nod to the campy horror movies of yesteryears, with a reference to the contemporary notion of the final girl. Though a constant recurrence in the genre, it wasn’t named until 1992, when Carol J. Clover published Men, Women, And Chain Saws: Gender In The Modern Horror Film. The trope refers to the lone surviving female in slasher movies, which fans may recognize from films like Scream, Halloween, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The final girl is typically a virtuous virgin, hence the white lace ensemble.

Sweeney’s sugary-sweet look sharply contrasted with the hooded figures lurking just behind her. This demonstrates that even the final girl needs to take care of herself.
