Tommy Hilfiger revisits his greatest ’90s icons for Spring 2027, with Gigi Hadid and Romeo Beckham leading his return to New York’s Plaza Hotel.

Looking to the past does not necessarily mean repeating it. Tommy Hilfiger proves exactly that with his Spring 2027 collection, a proposal built around the house’s archives that revives some of its most recognisable designs from the 1990s and adapts them for a new generation. The result keeps the brand’s American DNA intact while transforming proportions, fabrics and the way each piece is worn.

“We’re making the classics more modern and more relevant for today,” Hilfiger explained during a preview at his New York headquarters. The designer revealed that he began with heritage pieces from the archives in order to give them “a new beginning, a new life”, preserving their original concept while completely transforming their execution.

The timing could hardly be more appropriate. Preppy and Americana aesthetics are once again occupying a prominent place in fashion, but Hilfiger avoids simply reissuing his greatest hits. His traditional red, white and blue palette remains, while the silhouettes take on a considerably more relaxed attitude.

Denim and varsity jackets are scaled down, while shorts become micro versions of their original forms, cut extremely wide and designed for both men and women. Polo shirts appear oversized, while classic rugby shirts lose some of their traditional sporting character by being reworked in washed silk.

The iconic Tommy Hilfiger sailing jackets also make a comeback. Yellow and red dominate these pieces, with one particularly striking version combining suede, leather and breathable, waterproof technical materials.

The intention is to connect directly with a younger consumer who, according to the designer, continues to seek traditional references but wants to wear them differently. Generous proportions, comfort and an effortless attitude transform the classic preppy uniform into something far less rigid.

The archives also appear in an unexpected form on a long silk dress inspired by the historic 1985 “Hangman” campaign. The famous Times Square billboard positioned Hilfiger alongside Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Perry Ellis as one of the major names in American fashion.

Accessories follow the same exaggerated approach. Oversized tote bags, bucket hats in tartan and patchwork, and a reissued pair of 1990s skater trainers bring familiar codes into a contemporary context.

The runway also featured two figures closely associated with the brand’s current universe. Gigi Hadid opened the show wearing a beige blazer, striped silk shirt and dramatically oversized red baggy trousers. A long-time friend and collaborator of Hilfiger, the model also recently starred in one of the house’s campaigns alongside Travis Kelce.

Romeo Beckham closed the show in a cropped tartan jacket, button-down shirt, graphic knitted tie and streetwear-inspired Bermuda shorts. But the spectacle still had another surprise in store: Slayyyter emerged to perform two of her songs with a live band in front of guests including Kate Moss and Camila Cabello.

The staging reflects a philosophy Hilfiger calls FAMES: fashion, art, music, entertainment and sports. For the designer, a contemporary fashion show should go beyond simply presenting clothes and become an experience where fashion, Hollywood, music, sport and art can come together.
