Maybe Happy Ending and Purpose were the standout winners at a Tony Awards ceremony marked by innovation, emotion, and diversity.

The story of two outdated robots who discover love captivated both the jury and audiences, taking home accolades including Best Musical and Best Actor for Darren Criss.

In the play categories, the award for Best Play went to Purpose, a powerful portrait of an African-American family reuniting in Chicago. The production also received praise for its cast, including Best Featured Actress for Kara Young.

Other highlights from the night included Sarah Snook’s win for Best Actress in a Play for her commanding performance in The Picture of Dorian Gray, and Nicole Scherzinger’s triumph as Best Actress in a Musical for Sunset Boulevard, which also won Best Revival of a Musical.
