The true-crime anthology from Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan returns with a season set to unsettle audiences worldwide.

Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for ‘Monster: The Ed Gein Story’, the latest instalment of the hit series that previously captivated viewers with the cases of Jeffrey Dahmer and the Menéndez brothers. This time, the spotlight falls on Ed Gein, the Wisconsin killer whose disturbing crimes inspired horror milestones such as ‘Psycho’, ‘The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’ and ‘The Silence of the Lambs’. The series premieres globally on 3 October.

Though less infamous than Dahmer or Bundy, Gein lived as a reclusive figure hiding unthinkable secrets on his farm: human remains from grave robberies and murders that horrified his 1950s community. His obsessive relationship with his mother, Augusta Gein, lies at the heart of the drama, portrayed by Laurie Metcalf opposite Charlie Hunnam as Gein himself.

The teaser adds a striking twist by introducing Alfred Hitchcock, played by Tom Hollander, as a narrator guiding the viewer through images of the farmhouse, police discoveries and lingering questions: “What made him a monster? What shadows haunted his childhood?”

With a stellar cast including Suzanna Son, Vicky Krieps, Olivia Williams, Joey Pollari and Lesley Manville, this season is being framed as the most intense yet. Brennan, who penned every episode, has described it as “the most powerful and disturbing chapter so far”.

‘Monster: The Ed Gein Story’ goes beyond recounting crimes, tracing how Gein’s legacy shaped both cinema and society’s fascination with fear. It promises a chilling journey to the roots of modern horror, connecting a lonely farmhouse in Wisconsin to decades of nightmares that still resonate today.
