Barry Keoghan opens up about online abuse targeting his appearance and reveals concerns about its impact on his personal life and his son.

Not everything surrounding Barry Keoghan is success. Despite being at one of the most significant moments of his career, the actor has chosen to speak candidly about a reality he has been facing for some time: the impact of online hate.

During an interview on SiriusXM, Keoghan was direct: “There’s a lot of abuse about how I look.” A statement that reflects an issue that has become persistent rather than isolated.

The actor acknowledges that he also receives support from fans, but admits that the negative side weighs more heavily than many might assume. One aspect worries him in particular: his son. “It’s hard to think that one day he’ll have to read all of this,” he confessed, revealing a vulnerability rarely expressed by figures at his level.

This pressure has gradually taken its toll. Keoghan explains that he has reduced his online presence, although he does not always manage to fully disconnect. Curiosity often leads him to check what is being said about him — and that is where it becomes difficult.

“It’s not nice. It’s made me isolate myself, not want to go to places,” he admitted. It is not just discomfort; he describes a real shift in his behaviour, avoiding events and public appearances due to fear of reaction.

What is most concerning is that the noise has begun to affect his work. “When it starts to reach your art, that’s a problem. Because you don’t even want to be on screen anymore,” he said with complete honesty.

All of this comes while he is filming one of the most important projects of his career, portraying Ringo Starr in the highly anticipated film about The Beatles.
