Gwyneth Paltrow is set to star in The Apology, a new A24 thriller for Netflix, which has already been commissioned for two seasons.
Gwyneth Paltrow is preparing to take on her first leading television role in The Apology, a new suspense thriller produced by A24 for Netflix. The streaming platform has already given the project a two-season order, with Thomas Vinterberg, the acclaimed filmmaker behind Another Round and The Hunt, attached to direct.
The actress will play Evelyn Amspoker, a mother whose son was murdered 18 years earlier in a crime that was never solved. When a stranger suddenly appears and confesses to the killing, Evelyn and her husband, Caleb, believe they may finally get the justice they have been waiting for. However, after discovering that the killer could benefit from a reduced sentence, the couple decide to take justice into their own hands.
The series will be created and written by Joe Murtagh, best known for The Woman in the Wall, who will also serve as showrunner. Paltrow will additionally take on an executive producer role alongside Murtagh, Vinterberg and Joe Hipps.
Although the Oscar-winning actress, who received the Academy Award for Shakespeare in Love, has previously appeared in television series such as Glee and The Politician, this will mark the first time she has taken the lead in a television production. The announcement follows her return to the big screen in Marty Supreme, alongside Timothée Chalamet.
For now, Netflix has yet to announce a release date or confirm the remaining cast members.
