Emma Watson is an advocate for sustainable fashion choices, so it’s no surprise that she decided to rewear a dress from her red carpet archive for a rare public appearance at the women’s Wimbledon final.
Emma Watson loosely adhered to the Wimbledon whites theme by donning an ivory lace mini dress by Oscar de la Renta that she had previously worn in 2017. Emma has been a fan of the New York-based brand throughout her career; remember the layered gray dress she selected from their workshops for the world premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two.
It was during the promotion of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ that the actress launched the now-inactive Instagram account, The Press Tour, to document her conscious fashion choices and introduce her followers to the ethical brands she loves. Emma wore this particular dress at a press conference in Los Angeles, explaining that, along with stylist Rebecca Corbin-Murray, she chose it for its incredible craftsmanship and the brand’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact.

As Watson noted, the hand embroidery on the silk taffeta and the silk faille bow were done in the Taroni workshops in Italy, which specialize in “high-quality couture fabrics” and “are committed to reducing their environmental impact, including investing in solar energy and… eliminating all toxic chemicals from their supply chain.” The dress was then constructed at the Oscar de la Renta atelier in New York, with the panels cut and folded by hand. Even the dress zipper was repurposed from an unused sample.
It is fitting, then, that such a special dress be worn by Watson again and again. The avid tennis fan sat in the center court alongside singer Lewis Capaldi and watched the Duchess of Wales present the Wimbledon trophy to this year’s champion, Markéta Vondroušová.
