The perpetual agreement between Safilo and David Beckham reflects the evolution of the branded eyewear industry.
Safilo Group has taken a significant step in the evolution of the eyewear industry by announcing a perpetual licensing agreement with Authentic Brands Group for Eyewear by David Beckham. This agreement replaces a previous contract expiring in 2030, signaling a shift in focus towards the production and distribution of branded eyewear.
This trend towards perpetual agreements has also been observed with Marcolin and EssilorLuxottica. These movements are responses to drastic changes in the industry, such as the Essilor and Luxottica merger, challenging companies like Safilo and Marcolin to rethink their strategies.
Angelo Trocchia, CEO of Safilo, described the agreement as “another milestone” in their strategy, highlighting the importance of making David Beckham an essential brand in their portfolio. Since its launch in 2020, Eyewear by David Beckham has experienced significant growth, becoming a leading brand in the premium male segment.
Experts like Luca Solca from Bernstein and Oriana Cardani from Intesa Sanpaolo view this move as a partial response to industry changes, reflecting the need for adaptation and securing positions in a dynamic market.
