Ariana Grande opens up about fan harassment and reveals why she changed the cover of her debut album “Yours Truly” during a Q&A session on TikTok.
To mark the 10th anniversary of her debut album, ‘Yours Truly’, Ariana Grande took to TikTok for a live two-part Q&A session with fans, where she chatted about everything related to the record. Among the generic questions like “how long did it take you to write it?” and “what did you learn during the recording of the album?”, the 30-year-old singer also discussed the constant harassment she received, which led her to change the original cover.
For some context, the original image was going to show Ariana wearing a light pink lingerie-style dress and thigh-high stockings while sitting on a bed of pink roses. Which, as we now know, didn’t materialise in 2013. Instead, the singer opted for something a bit more subdued: a black and white photo in which Ariana had her eyes closed and her face up, with ‘Yours Truly‘ written in pink in cursive.
As she reflected on the initial choice, and holding a copy of the first image, the ‘Stuck With U’ singer said: “Well, it’s awful”, before backtracking.
“It’s not awful. [But] you were right. They got very angry when they saw it”, she said, before admitting that she was “very sad about that”, so she “changed it”.
“But they’re not always right. Their harassment has been constant for the last 10 years. So there’s that”, she continued in a slightly sarcastic tone.
Then, Ariana added that although “sometimes that works”, other times “it leaves her with wounds that make her question everything she’s done since then”.
“I joke, bye”, she said as she moved on to her next question.
