Cate Blanchett reveals that her salary for The Lord of the Rings was minimal, saying, “Basically, they paid me with sandwiches.”
Cate Blanchett, known for her iconic role as Galadriel in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy, recently shared an intriguing fact during an interview: almost no one in the cast received a significant payment for their work on the famous saga. In an appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, the actress surprised the audience by revealing that her involvement in the film earned her little more than “free sandwiches.”
Despite the trilogy’s massive global success, Blanchett explained that the cast did not receive large paychecks, stating that there were no additional compensations or profit shares. Her motivation to join the project was her desire to work with Peter Jackson, whom she admired for his cult film Braindead.
The 55-year-old Blanchett also reflected on the pay disparity in the industry, noting that women do not earn as much as one might think. Currently, Blanchett portrays Lilith in the film adaptation of the video game Borderlands, continuing to showcase her versatility and talent. At the film’s premiere, she dazzled in an outfit made of 102 spoons, reaffirming her status as a style icon and actress committed to sustainability.
