The “Symphonie Fantastique” collection by Hedi Slimane for CELINE Homme marks a return to sophisticated tailoring, inspired by the elegance of the 1960s and the romanticism of the 19th century. Slimane’s designs include frock coats, three-button suits, and hand-embroidered vests, crafted from luxurious materials such as silk, cashmere, and vicuña. Slimane discovered “Symphonie Fantastique” at the age of 11 and was captivated by its romantic allure and the emotional intensity of Berlioz’s composition. This early exposure to Berlioz’s work significantly influenced Slimane’s artistic sensibility, evident in his fashion creations.

Berlioz composed the “Symphonie Fantastique” at the age of 26, inspired by his relationship with the English actress Harriet Smithson. The symphony expresses his obsessive love and unrequited passion. Berlioz envisioned his work as an “immense instrumental composition of a new genre,” achieved through innovative orchestration techniques that imparted a spatial quality to the music. This avant-garde approach was so innovative that initial reviews highlighted its “almost inconceivable strangeness.”
