The unveiling of Versace’s “La Vacanza,” co-designed by Dua Lipa and Donatella Versace, took place in Cannes on May 23, and the result did not disappoint.

Drawing inspiration from Versace’s Fall/Winter 1992 and Spring/Summer 1995 Atelier collections, the co-designed offering included fluid silk shirts, tailored wide-leg trousers, and buckle bras, combined with metallic miniskirts, sensual bikinis, and mesh garments, taking references from the iconic era of 90s supermodels. With a summer color palette in pastel shades like “Azur Blue” and “Lavender,” the collection came to life with metallic sheen, crystal mesh, and pastel-toned leather, all backed by Dua Lipa‘s signature butterfly motif.

Regarding the start of their relationship, it has clearly been an ongoing collaboration from day one for both of them. “We have had such a longstanding relationship, and Donatella has supported me from the get-go, from performing at the Brit Awards, which was amazing and very special to me, and then we’ve had three moments together at the Grammys”, Lipa said during the press conference.

“Donatella has this real insight, it’s something very special that not many designers do at all, but she really cares about how women feel in clothes and wants to make sure you feel strong and empowered. She has some really incredible values that I really identify with”, the artist continued.

“To hear a voice outside of my team that comes and tells me how she sees Versace is very important. It’s important because for me, Lipa represents the woman of today: confident, strong, and with the ability to influence people”, Donatella added. Confidence and freedom seemed to be the main influences of the duo, along with inspiration from Versace’s rich archives. “For each of us, the butterfly had a very important meaning that we connected with from very early on”, Lipa explained.

“We wanted to create the vacation wardrobe and something that I could definitely see myself wearing all summer, something that other people would also love and enjoy. It’s fun. It’s flirty”, the singer added.
