Dark humour, paranoia and twisted power games collide in Yorgos Lanthimos’s ‘Bugonia’, starring Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons this autumn.
Emma Stone returns to the screen alongside Jesse Plemons in ‘Bugonia’, the highly anticipated psychological thriller from visionary director Yorgos Lanthimos, who captivated audiences with ‘The Favourite’ and ‘Poor Things’. This time, he dives into paranoia, obsession and fear, crafting one of the most talked-about releases of 2025.
The plot follows two conspiracy-driven cousins who kidnap Michelle, a ruthless pharmaceutical CEO they believe to be an alien intent on destroying Earth. Stone delivers a performance that shifts between calculated authority and desperate vulnerability, while Plemons embodies Teddy’s obsessive intensity. Rising actor Aidan Delbis joins them as Don, a conflicted accomplice caught between loyalty and moral doubt.
Written by Will Tracy during lockdown and inspired by the cult Korean film ‘Save the Green Planet’, the script reflects themes of isolation, digital radicalisation and fractured realities. With a thunderous score by Jerskin Fendrix, performed by a 90-piece orchestra, and sharp editing from Yorgos Mavropsaridis, Lanthimos amplifies the chaos into something both grotesque and moving.
Set to premiere on Netflix this October, ‘Bugonia’ arrives as a disturbing yet magnetic exploration of human fear, power and the dangerous seduction of conspiracy.
