Madonna spent several days in intensive care after developing a severe bacterial infection on Saturday. Her manager stated in a statement that she will postpone a worldwide tour that was scheduled to begin next month.

The singer remains under medical supervision, said Guy Oseary on Instagram, but a full recovery is expected. “We will share more details with you soon, including a new start date for the tour and rescheduled shows,” he said. Madonna’s representatives, including Oseary, could not be immediately reached for comment on the severity of her condition or whether she was awake and responsive.

Her Celebration Tour, announced in a video in January featuring appearances by Amy Schumer, Jack Black, and Lil Wayne, among others, was set to start in Vancouver on July 15, with concerts planned until next year. The tour included stops in Seattle, New York, Washington D.C., Mexico City, and London.

“I take none of this for granted,” said 64-year-old Madonna, a few days after announcing her tour. “I feel like the luckiest girl in the world.” The pop star has had a series of health incidents in previous years, including horse riding accidents in 2005 and 2009. In 2020, she announced that she would undergo regenerative treatment for cartilage loss, several months after abruptly canceling a performance in Lisbon, stating that she “had to listen to my body and rest.”
