The historic Beyer Chronometrie will close in 2026 as Patek Philippe takes over its iconic Zurich location to open a new global flagship salon.

The landscape of luxury watchmaking is about to change. Patek Philippe has officially confirmed the acquisition of Beyer Chronometrie, the world’s oldest independent watch retailer, bringing an end to a legacy that has defined Swiss horology for generations. Located on Zurich’s prestigious Bahnhofstrasse, the historic boutique will close its doors at the end of 2026, marking a pivotal moment for the industry.

From 2027, the space will be transformed into a new Patek Philippe flagship salon, becoming only the fourth of its kind worldwide, alongside Geneva, London and Paris. This strategic move reinforces the brand’s commitment to expanding its global presence while maintaining a highly curated retail experience rooted in exclusivity and craftsmanship.

The acquisition did not happen overnight. In 2024, Patek Philippe quietly secured a minority stake in Beyer Chronometrie, laying the groundwork for a deeper integration. The situation evolved following the passing of René Beyer in 2025, the eighth-generation owner of the family business. Control then passed to his sister, Muriel Zahn-Beyer, who ultimately approved the full sale, ensuring continuity for employees and preserving the brand’s legacy in a new form.

While the multibrand retail concept will come to an end, one key element will remain: the renowned Beyer Watch Museum. Although it will leave its current location, it is set to be relocated within Zurich, maintaining its cultural and historical significance.

This transition reflects a broader shift within the luxury watch industry, where heritage houses are increasingly consolidating their retail environments to deliver more immersive brand experiences. With this acquisition, Patek Philippe not only secures a prime location but also reinforces its position at the pinnacle of contemporary horology.

A closing chapter, and the beginning of a new one.
