After nearly a decade without new music, Rihanna is back in the studio—though with an unexpected twist: her voice in The Smurfs.

In January 2025, a video of Rihanna singing in a bar went viral, sending her fans into a frenzy. They have been begging for her return to the studio for years. Her last album, Anti, was released in 2016, and since then, the star has shut down any rumours of new music—until 5 February 2025.

The Barbadian superstar has finally answered their calls and stepped back into the studio. The catch? It’s not for a bold new album, but for The Smurfs soundtrack. The only confirmed song so far is Heaven Is a Place on Earth, a cover of Belinda Carlisle’s hit, which can be heard in the film’s trailer. Additionally, Rihanna narrates the teaser, as she voices Smurfette in the animated film.

Since becoming a mother in 2022, the singer has taken a new direction in her career, making this project a logical step. However, fans remain unconvinced. “You know we’re desperate when we’re excited about Smurfs music”, joked one social media user.

If you were hoping to hear your favourite artist sing again… you’ll either have to stream Anti once more or get ready to watch a children’s film.
