Tom Hardy stars in Jo Malone London’s new cologne campaign

Tom Hardy leads the campaign for Jo Malone London’s new cologne, celebrating the diversity and spirit of London.

Renowned actor Tom Hardy is the official ambassador for Jo Malone London‘s new Cypress & Grapevine cologne, a fresh and woody fragrance with notes of sensual amber and its namesake ingredients. For the launch, Hardy enlisted his father, Chips Hardy, and director Edward Berger to produce a short film that celebrates the “idiosyncrasies, dichotomies, and peculiarities” of London.

The cinematic visual unfolds in the dark streets of London, where Hardy notes that a “beautiful mix” of people can be found on any given night. The script, written by Chips, reflects the sentiment of the scene: “Life in London is about living with differences,” Hardy says in the opening, before showcasing an eclectic array of scenes that include a woman enjoying a milkshake, an older man waiting for transport, a silver-clad dancer performing, and a florist making deliveries in the rain.

“The opposites that attract, the enigmas, the paradoxes, the exceptional and the contradictory: these are part of who we are,” narrates the actor over panoramic views of the English capital before the film cuts to the fragrance.

“We had the enormous privilege of being almost unleashed in London to try and convey that sense of freedom and complexity in the city,” said Hardy. “This sense of a place where everyone, regardless of their differences, contributes to the life of the city. If you walk through a London park or take a night bus, the people you see next to you typically neither look the same nor are doing the same thing. If you look at London as a matrix, you’ll always see a mix of unlikely things happening.”

He added, “Our hope is that the audience leaves with a liberating feeling, a sense of ‘what it means to be a Londoner.’ A feeling they could associate with the brand.”
