Nicole Kidman returns to Chanel as ambassador, marking her alliance with Matthieu Blazy in a pivotal new chapter for the maison.
Two decades after starring in one of Chanel’s most iconic campaigns, Nicole Kidman has officially returned as an ambassador for the maison. The announcement was made public on Monday in Paris, just hours before her appearance at Matthieu Blazy’s highly anticipated debut as Chanel’s creative director during Paris Fashion Week.
The Oscar-winning actress attended the show in a look that was both relaxed and strategic: an oversized white tuxedo-style shirt paired with wide-leg jeans. The ensemble served as an aesthetic introduction to Chanel’s new creative chapter — one that embraces a more contemporary vision of luxury.
Her presence was more than symbolic; it marked an emotional homecoming for the house. In 2004, Kidman fronted the legendary Chanel No. 5 campaign directed by Baz Luhrmann, a cinematic milestone that transformed the relationship between fashion, film and celebrity culture. It was also among the first major collaborations to turn runway shows into pop culture events. Karl Lagerfeld himself designed the iconic gown Kidman would later rewear at the 2023 Met Gala in tribute to the late designer.
“Chanel has always been at the forefront, empowering women with intelligence and grace, and I am certain Matthieu will continue that legacy, just as Karl once did,” said Kidman in a statement. She also expressed her excitement about experiencing this new era of the maison firsthand and wearing Blazy’s upcoming creations.
The connection between the two is not new: Blazy had previously dressed Kidman during his tenure at Bottega Veneta, and now celebrates the opportunity to deepen that relationship in a new creative context. “Nicole has always been part of Chanel’s story. Free, evolving — to me, she embodies the Chanel woman,” the designer remarked.
From within Chanel, Bruno Pavlovsky, President of Fashion and of Chanel SAS, confirmed that Kidman’s return forms part of a broader strategy combining fresh faces with historic ambassadors. “It’s not about replacing, but expanding. Matthieu brings new creative affinities while remaining faithful to the relationships that define the brand’s identity,” he explained.
With her comeback, Nicole Kidman not only rekindles her bond with one of the world’s most emblematic fashion houses but also embodies the balance between legacy and reinvention that Chanel seeks to convey in this new era.
