HBO presents IT: Welcome to Derry, a series that delves into the origins of Pennywise and the dark history of Derry, Maine.
HBO has released the first images of its highly anticipated horror series, IT: Welcome to Derry, set to premiere in 2025. This series, developed by filmmakers Andy and Barbara Muschietti along with screenwriter Jason Fuchs, explores the eerie setting of Derry, Maine, before the events of Stephen King‘s classic novel.

Bill Skarsgård returns to his chilling role as Pennywise, the terrifying clown who has left an indelible mark on contemporary horror. The series will focus on Pennywise’s origins and Derry’s spine-chilling history, set in the 1960s and expanding on the legacy of the IT films from 2017 and 2019. Skarsgård will be joined by a cast including Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso.

Production began in Toronto and other Canadian locations in May 2023 and wrapped in August after a brief pause due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Andy Muschietti will direct several episodes, including the pilot, ensuring continuity with the previous films. With a total of nine episodes, IT: Welcome to Derry promises to bring fans back to the terrifying atmosphere of Derry, offering new insights into the Pennywise mythos.
