Gucci presents Bamboo: Decoding an Icon in Shanghai, an exhibition celebrating the history, innovation, and legacy of the iconic Bamboo 1947 bag.

Gucci pays tribute to its heritage with the exhibition Bamboo: Decoding an Icon, which will open at the historic Sunke Villa in Shanghai. Curated by the Milan-based studio 2050+, the exhibition explores the significance of bamboo in the brand’s identity and its cultural impact.

The exhibition highlights the role of bamboo as a symbol of resilience, elegance, and versatility—values deeply rooted in both Chinese philosophy and Gucci’s history. Through artistic installations, visitors will discover the evolution of the Gucci Bamboo bag, first created in 1947 during a period of material shortages following World War II. Guccio Gucci’s ingenious decision to use bamboo led to the creation of an iconic accessory that remains relevant today.

Open to the public from April 1 to April 6, the exhibition will offer insights into the meticulous craftsmanship behind the bag and its influence on fashion. Additionally, it follows the tradition of previous exhibitions in Tokyo and Shanghai dedicated to this emblematic design.
