The collaboration between Lefties and the sports brand brings us the new ‘basketcore’ trend in honor of player Jordi Villacampa.

The new alliance of Lefties and Kelme offers a reinterpretation of basketball gear, transforming it into pieces that will be essential this winter. Former Spanish player Jordi Villacampa is a true basketball icon. He started playing basketball for fun until, at the age of 16, he made his debut with the Club Joventut de Badalona. He holds the record for the most titles with this team, including accolades such as two ACB Leagues, one Copa del Rey, and two Supercopa de España titles.

The forward from the Badalona club not only inspired this sports collection, but also his own Kelme Villacampa sneakers, which are the centerpiece of the collection and consist of Air Jordans in black, white, and green colors. The collection features the JV8 logo with a basketball hoop that, according to the player, gives meaning to this collection and reflects what basketball means to him.

The collection presents a universal and unisex proposal that aims not only to attract sports lovers but also transcends to fit into all types of wardrobes. The collection was released on October 11, the player’s birthday, and features urban pieces based on relaxed silhouettes. Key items of the basketcore aesthetic and this collection include sporty shorts, tank tops, oversized sweatshirts, and color-block tracksuits. In this collaboration, the color palette of green and black reigns throughout the collection, referencing the uniform of the Catalan team.

In Villacampa’s words, this collection goes beyond simple clothing; it’s a way to connect the historic legacy of the team with new generations. Moreover, the collaboration conveys a message of the most important values in the world of sports, such as sacrifice, competitiveness, and perseverance.

What is the basketcore trend?

The basketcore trend revives clothing from basketball uniforms and sportswear to integrate them into today’s trends and collections. Following the popularity of the blokecore trend, inspired by football aesthetics, basketcore promises to be the new fashion aesthetic in fashion brands and on social media. The term blokecore comes from English slang (bloke means mate) and was coined by American TikToker Brandon Huntley.
